About Warrior Womxn Republic
Warrior Woman Republic is a movement for women of all ages to reclaim their voice, body and agency, through Self Defense, Martial Arts and Yoga. These modalities along with life coaching and intentional community ignite the fire to destroy beliefs of playing small, recreate who you were born to be, nurture the seeds to dream and grow, in order for transformation to unleash from the inside out.
Our mission is to reclaim a fierce feminine paradigm.
We believe in rewriting femininity beyond the extremes of infantilization and the over-idealization of the masculine, embracing a power that transcends gender. We stand with all the “girls like us,” told they are too emotional, broken, or out of control. We stand for the women who are too loud, too quiet, or feel unheard, for the little girls twirling in lacy dresses and those who love a good fight. For those who’ve experienced the sting of rejection or the joy of love’s sweet melody. For those who are more than just a pretty face but celebrate their sensuality nonetheless.
We also stand with the “boys like us,” told to bottle their emotions, be strong, make money, and protect. For the men told that muscles matter more than their love for comic books, who are expected to be in charge even when they feel like a mess inside. For those who put on a “game face” when all they want is the comfort of their mother’s embrace. For the ones who are both strong and sometimes don’t have it all together.
We stand for everyone across the spectrum, fighting for our complex humanity, rising beyond the rigid constructs of “should’s” and “shouldn’ts.” We embrace the deep waters of life, sharing the stories of our scars, knowing that however dark the night, morning always comes. Some days we are the strong shoulders that carry others, and some days we reach out, trusting in the hands that will pull us back up.
Meet Angela, a fearless advocate for personal freedom and social change, who pairs her experience in self defense and yoga with fierce compassion to help others break free from fear and embrace the strength they’ve always had within.
I began this work because I deeply understand what it feels like to be afraid as a woman in the world. Growing up, I was so full of fear that I didn’t speak outside my home until I was in sixth grade. This fear held me back from taking chances and seizing opportunities. However, through a journey of profound personal growth, I discovered an abiding fearlessness within me. As I continue to heal myself it seems natural to want healing for others and the world.
My transformative path took shape when I moved to Washington, DC, 15 years ago while attending Iliff School of Theology in Denver for my Masters of Divinity. Inspired by my teacher Vincent Harding, a pivotal figure in the Civil Rights Movement, I felt compelled to take action. This led me to volunteer for a year at Joseph’s House AIDS hospice for homeless men and women. Although I initially planned to return to Denver to complete my degree, I followed my intuition and moved into Joseph’s House as a resident. My roles ranged from Director of Volunteers to Personal Care Aid, Chaplain, and Administrative Staff.
During this time, I embarked on a yoga teacher training to become more grounded at Joseph’s House. What started as a personal endeavor quickly turned into a passion, and I began teaching yoga over 20 years ago, including leading Yoga Teacher Training Programs in DC.
My entry into martial arts was serendipitous. Initially skeptical about the idea, I found myself drawn to Budokon, a blend of yoga and martial arts. In Budokon Teacher training, I found herself striking, sparring, grappling, being terrible at all of it, and loving it! I fell in love with the discipline and committed to serious training in Self Defense, Jiu Jitsu, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, and wrestling.
I’m a Black Belt in Krav Maga, a certified FireArmed Instructor, and a Budokon Brown Belt. I also hold the title of Master Yoga Teacher and Teacher of Teachers. Additionally, I am an End of Life Care Counselor through the Metta Institute, and I studied Buddhist Chaplaincy at the New York Zen Center for Contemplative Care. I have a Masters of Theology and a writer for Elephant Journal.
My professional journey includes working with Global Journalist Security, where I train journalists and NGOs in high-risk environments, and serving as a security advisor for Reuters. As a Sports Envoy through the State Department, I’ve worked with young women across various countries, including Pakistan, Kenya, Uzbekistan, Brazil, Guatemala, Honduras, Poland, Mexico, and across the US. I’m also an actor with Studio Theatre and a life coach certified through the Wayfinder Program and the International Coaching Federation.
My mission is to help others—women and men alike—unleash the freedom to be who they were born to be.
